8. Mystic Giants - 1050w x 760h (recycled Rimu frame) Completed December 2002 |
Since
my childhood this 'Giants Head' has held a profound fascination for
me. The Kauri trees add to the 'giant' theme of this misty valley. A Tui
flies past under the gaze of a territorial Bellbird -these are two
dominant honey eaters of N.Z. birds. The female and male seeds of the
Kauri can be seen in the foreground. Today the regeneration of this area
will one day resurrect these mystical giants
Mystical giants thrust skywards Enveloped by natures blanket Pure clear song resonates Ancient valleys harbour old forests Wondrous spiritual beauty ~chele 2002 |

For his next work, and a complete change of scene, Awanui has decided to paint a picture depicting the beautiful Mt Taranaki with a stunning red deer stag in the roar. This 16 point Red Stag is standing on a knoll that he has selected to defend against other stags. Hinds will be drawn to the area and will be the ultimate prize if this magnificent stag can hold this territory. Mount Taranaki viewed from the south eastern side dominates the scene.

Ohui Beach Haven |
This the latest painting in the Coromandel series shows a beautiful pristine beach on the Peninsula. Ohui is approximately a 4 km walk along Opoutere Beach. A walk well worth taking. This majestic old Pohutukawa is one of many left on the farm and it creates a perfect frame for the tiny island that you can walk to at low tide. Slipper Island, Rabbit and Penguin Islands sit off shore in the distance This area is a haven for many of our native birds. |

This is another aspect of the beach at Ohui. The beautiful, endangered Dotterel breeds here in a protected area. |

This dramatic painting depicts the stunning twilight sky over eternal Mount Kaitarikihi. The 'Devcich Kauri' which is seen by walking from the Kopu-Hikaui Road which crosses the ranges between Thames and the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula, is approx. 2-3000 years old and in its twilight years. The Kokako in the foreground is thought to be the last living in the Coromandel area. |

Te Karo Bay, Sailors Grave, North of Tairua, Coromandel Peninsula. My favorite family and surfing beach. The Pohutukawa (NZ Christmas tree) is coming into full bloom and a bumble bee harvest the abundance of nectar. It is December and summer has arrived. Tw0 'welcome swallows' flit about feeding on insects. Terns search for herrings in this pristine environment. |
